EDUCATION

A Strategic Focus on Student Success

Hernando County continues to make the grade in education. Supported by many talented educators and involved parents, students are responding with high test scores, awards and scholarships throughout Hernando County.

From elementary through college, new facilities are open to accommodate the growing needs of the community. Enhanced academic curriculums keep pace with the demand for schools to provide students opportunities for educational advancement at every grade level.

Over 23,000 students are enrolled in Hernando County’s public school system. The newest school to join the family of Hernando’s 23 publicly funded schools is Winding Waters K-8 located adjacent to Weeki Wachee High School. Winding Waters will usher in its first students for the 2011-2012 school year with a curriculum focused on environmental education and energy efficiency.

Several private schools in Hernando Countyoffer an educational option for students in grades K-12.

Every high school in Hernando County fills an educational niche, from International Bachelorette degrees to “Career Academies” including: International Business, Marketing Web Design, Veterinary Assistant and Health Sciences. Additionally, accelerated programs such as Honors and Advanced Placement provide a rigorous academic challenge. Qualifying students can participate in College Dual Enrollment from Pasco Hernando Community College (PHCC).

PHCC continues to expand not only their facilities but their academic offerings as well. These offerings include partnerships with Hodges University, Barry University, and University of South Florida courses. This wide array of AS degrees and AA degrees spanning over 40+ high demand career programs, makes PHCC a very attractive and affordable education choice.

Not too far from Hernando County, three Universities offering degrees from Bachelors to Doctorates are busy educating our future leaders. Students can choose the rural setting characterized by the rolling hills of Saint Leo, Florida, home to Saint Leo University or the hustle and bustle of Tampa and the University of South Florida, or the University of Tampa.
